Wawali Manado Mor Bastiaan pada acara perilisan kejuaraan masuk payung IOPC 2018 di Marina Plaza pagi tadi.
MANADO, BERITASULUT.CO.ID – Kejuaraan terjun payung International Open Parachuting Championship (IOPC) 2018 di Kota Manado telah mulai digelar Senin 26 November 2018 hari ini.
Kejuaraan olahraga dirgantara ini kemudian didedikasikan dan mengenang para atlet terjun payung dan paralayang Sulut yang meninggal di Kota Palu beberapa pekan lalu akibat bencana alam gempa bumi dan tsunami.
Mereka adalah almarhum Franky Kowaas, Petra Mandagie, dan Glen Mononutu. Mereka bahkan sebelum dijemput ajal di Palu, sempat mengisi kegiatan Manado Fiesta 2018 pada akhir Agustus 2018.
“Pemerintah dan masyarakat Kota Manado tentu merasa kehilangan beberapa sosok atlet terjun payung potensial yang meninggal akibat gempa bumi dan tsunami di Palu,” ujar Walikota DR Ir GS Vicky Lumentut SH MSi DEA melalui Wakil Walikota Mor Dominus Bastiaan SE saat membuka kegiatan di kawasan Marina Plaza.
Dikatakannya, harus diakui bahwa masyarakat Sulut, khususnya Manado, merasa sedih dan kehilangan beberapa atlet terbaik dirgantara, namun diyakini akan lahir atlet-atlet baru.
“Kita yakin regenerasi dan kaderisasi terus berjalan melalui kejuaraan-kejuaraan seperti saat ini. Sehingga, melahirkan atlet-atlet berprestasi di tahun-tahun mendatang,” ucap Wawali Mor.
Ditambahkannya, olahraga terjun payung merupakan salah satu olahraga yang menjadi kebanggaan Sulawesi Utara khususnya Kota Manado. Dimana, banyak atlet balik payung berasal dari daerah ini. (DONWU)
